Hi Daylily Lovers:After several years of planning, the AHS National Convention for 2010 has come and gone. What fun we had!! We are hoping that the 629 attendees enjoyed it as much as we did! We would like to thank each of you who took the time and expense to visit Valdosta and our daylily garden. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and we added a few surprises along the way to keep things hopping. I'll post a few pictures on the event in the near future. For Ron and I, it was somewhat a "let down" once the event had passed. We suddenly found ourselves not constantly on the phone or in the garden. We took some time to visit with family and when we returned, the jungle had invaded our place. It is amazing how quickly a well groomed garden can turn into a place that is over run by all sorts of exotic plants (also known as weeds)! To make it worse, we've been suffering through several weeks of temperatures at or over the 100 degree mark making it nearly impossible to work outside for more than a few hours in the early morning or late evening. When you get up with temperatures already in the 80's you know you are in for another hot day! I know many of you across this great nation are also dealing with this year's strange weather. Until three days ago, we had barely had a smidgen of rain in weeks. Our yard had large areas that had turned brown and anything that we weren't watering, was on death's doorstep. We've now been blessed with showers each evening for the past three days. Last night's shower was quiet a storm, dumping 3/4 inch in less than an hour. As glad as we were for the rain, we did have a "demise" as a result. With the weather being so hot, we had recently purchased a tent canopy and placed it on our deck to give our dogs some relief from the sun when they weren't in the house. Ron had anchored it to the deck to keep it from being a parachute and it seemed to be working well. We were sitting in the family room during the storm when suddenly we heard a very loud "whoosh" from outside. Looking outside, we saw what looked like a prehistoric bird that had lost its fight with a dinosaur. The weight of the water on the canopy had become too much for its posts and all but one leg had collapsed in a heap! I guess that is $80 we should have kept in our pockets! We will have to think of another idea for shade.
As you may know, Patron Gardens is a home garden with primarily two workers, Ron and I. We are currently winding down our year. We are beginning in earnest to line out our daylilies. We are going to try some new venues this next year by being a vendor in some of the larger arts and crafts fairs. We did some of this while raising money for the National and found that we enjoyed the interaction with the crowds. I'll post upcoming events so that you can look us up if you are planning on attending.
A note on the 2010 pricing of our daylilies. If you get the Eureka Daylily Reference Guide, you may notice that some of the prices shown here are different from those in the Eureka. When pricing this year, my pen was not as sharp as it should have been in some cases. So I took the time to compare prices and where I could, I met the prices shown in the Eureka. With the economic problems all are facing, I wanted to be as fair as possible to our customers.
We can ship anytime during the year that the current weather permits. We aren't as young as we used to be so harsh temperatures/weather can slow shipping down from time to time. We always try to accommodate your needs, so let us know a preferred shipping date. We guarantee our plants to be state inspected, healthy and true to name. If dissatisfied when your shipment arrives, immediately return the shipment for a full refund. Plants are guaranteed to grow for six months if they are not divided by the customer nor grown in black pots. Please contact us as soon as you have a problem. We will ship you a replacement, offer a substitute plant, if appropriate, or give you a credit on your next order. We maintain a weekly preventative spray program for rust and will never ship a plant that we believe to be infected.
If you love daylilies, one of the best ways to meet others who share your passion is to join your local daylily club and the American Hemerocallis Society. The AHS website is www.daylilies.org. There is a lot of information at this website and will keep you informed about the world of daylilies and people who love them. Thanks to all of you who have ordered from us over the past few years. We hope that you continue to enjoy your flowers and think of us when you just have to have some more. Take care, stay cool, and happy gardening! Ron and Pat Bonner Web Site Designed By: Pat Bonner |
